TELLY medium Derek Acorah took part in Britain's biggest paranormal experiment early today — and caused a sensation among Sun readers.

Acorah, who says he can communicate with the dead through a spirit guide, conducted a series of psychic readings which were shown live and unedited on our website.

We invited Derek to take part so that readers could decide for themselves whether or not they believe he can contact the dead.

The star gave out information about many callers which proved to be amazingly accurate, although he was not successful on every attempt.

His live webchat was joined by more than 10,000 Sun readers at midnight, with thousands flocking to the site after word spread via Twitter and Facebook.

The event is thought to have set a world record for the largest number of people to take part in a paranormal experiment of this kind.

One woman — who was picked at random by The Sun's staff from hundreds of callers — was accurately told by Acorah that her grandmother had passed away.

Derek was able to describe her family circumstances in great detail, even down to mentioning a relative's taste for tattoos.

But not every caller was convinced, and overall 45 per cent remained sceptical.

However 34 per cent told us in a poll that they believe they DID witness Acorah communicate with the dead, with 21 per cent unable to decide.

Hundreds of Sun readers left comments on our website saying they were wowed by Derek's paranormal skills.

Trance Lover said: "Would just like to say that I was the first caller on the live show tonight (Deborah) and am totally shocked & amazed by what happened on the show.... Derek is TRULY amazing!!!

"He was accurate in everything he told me.... in fact I'm still in shock tbh!!! There may be some sceptics out there but until he links in with you, then you have no idea.

"I have telephoned my family members about my reading and they cannot believe the information he was able to give.... I am in awe of you Derek - you are truly gifted and I thank you for my wonderful reading...."

Katz 55 said: "This has been so enjoyable, thank you Derek ! you have answered quite a few questions about the "after life" for me tonight....."

But not all the readers were convinced of Derek's skills, Pep4UK said: "To me on some of the calls it could have been for anyone.

"We all sat up waiting and hoping for a reading or at least some proof but to me he was dragging calls on so he didnt really get that many.

"This is more than once I've seen Derek and im afraid to me he just isn't on the same level as some, others get things bang on.

"To me he guesses a lot and his comments could apply to anyone at all."
