"Holy Ghosts — or How a (Not So) Good Catholic Boy Became a Believer in Things That Go Bump in the Night" (Tarcher/Penguin, $23.95) is an interesting book that will keep the reader's attention because he or she will wonder what is going to happen or go bump next.

It is not an overly spooky book, but it will make you wonder about those unusual sounds and flashes in one's own house.

Author Gary Jansen is the editor for the publisher Doubleday Religion. He writes about his experience of living in his childhood home and about some unusual occurrences that happened in his toddler son's room and in other places of the house.

He researched into what the Catholic Church has to say about ghosts and apparitions and found that there is not much written on the topic.

He consulted with Mary Ann Winkowski, a television personality whose claims of paranormal experiences were the basis for the television series "The Ghost Whisperer."

This book is fascinating, thought-provoking and highly recommended to those interested in the possibility of ghosts or things that go bump in the night.
