MOVE over Mulder and Scully, because Crawley has its own answer to the 'X Files'.
Whilst others get their weekend thrills going out on the town, Debbie Dean, Dan Fonseca and friends spend their nights hunting down things that go bump in the night.

Since starting up five years ago, Crawley Paranormal Investigation has visited mo
re than 150 houses in search of ghoulish goings-on, and come back with more than a few tales to turn your hair white.

Debbie, a medium from Three Bridges, who claims to be sensitive to ghosts and spirits, teamed up with sceptic Dan to start looking into paranormal activity.

"A lot of people have come to me in the past to see if I can sort out problems in their houses," said Debbie.

"The thought of running a club or an investigation team just sprang to mind."

Dan, 39, from Southgate, aims to keep things grounded by looking for an explanation for the creepy phenomena.

"I want to believe," said Dan. "But I'm always looking for a logical reason for what's happening. In 90 per cent of cases there will be one, but I'd say there's about one in 10 that you just can't explain."

After spooked locals invite the team into their homes to investigate hauntings, the team go tooled up with an array of gadgetry, from electromagnetic field meters and night vision goggles to digital recorders.

But their arsenal also includes Ouija boards and séance sessions.
Their most terrifying case was an apartment in Horley which had once been part of a school.

"There was a child's room and we could hear Lego being played with but there was no one in the room at the time," Dan recalled.
"We did a séance and nothing happened, but as soon as we turned the camera off there was a big heavy door and the handle turned and it opened on its own.

"The poor people living there looked like death. They actually moved away because of it and I don't blame them. There was a really nasty feeling there."

The team, which now has 20 members, visits homes for free and also makes excursions for members to well known haunted houses in Sussex and beyond.
