Friday was the first day of spring. Spring ushers in Summer and that means BLOCKBUSTERS at the box office. I will be taking one movie a day and giving you some insight into every movie, with whatever info I can gather. I can't wait to tell you what movies you have to look forward to.

Today's film is:

A Haunting in Connecticut

Based on a true story. What exactly does that phrase means in the movie business? For the most part, nothing. Unless it's a biopic like Milk or Frost/Nixon. It could just be as little as the movie is based in the same town that the supposedly true story took place. After that it is unrecognizable.

However, I have actually heard of this case. It is a well known case and while the trailer looks like it's been ....expanded a bit. It is based on a real happening. Let me tell you where to find out about the REAL haunting.

There have been a few other vehicles that this story rode on. The first was a book entitled In a Dark Place . This case was investigated by the The Warrens, you can still see Lorraine every once in a while on Paranormal State. Ed passed in 2006. The most famous case they investigated was the Amityville Horror . That investigation and indeed the whole story was probably a hoax. Nonetheless, there is a true story of a terrible happening in that same Amityville, Long Island, New York house. The Defoes Murders. If that house is haunted, it certainly has a reason to be.

The second vehicle is a documentary from the series A Haunting . It is interesting, but it is actually a re-enactment of what supposedly happened. Not a full blown documentary.

This movie will more than likely offer a good scare of two. I'm interested in seeing it and I'm hoping it is better than An American Haunting which is also based on a true case in Tennessee. The Entity was named The Bell Witch . One of the only reported cases of an entity actually harming a human being. However the movie was not very good. There are documentaries around on DVD that are much meatier.

The paranormal is very popular lately in no small part due to the popularity of the Sci Fi channel's Ghost Hunters. There is also Paranormal state and Most Haunted which is a UK import.

Ghost stories are fun, based on truth or not. Here are a few movies that are good old fashioned ghost stories.

The Lady in White
The Uninvited
The Amityville Horror (demon story actually)
The Entity (another movie based on a true story. Also one of the other only cases with a human being harmed by an evil spirit.
Ghost Story

So while waiting for A Haunting in Connecticut , check out some of the above flicks.

Have fun.
