MOTORISTS using the A483 between Welshpool and Newtown have been urged to be alert after a mysterious woman was spotted near Belan recently.

Carl Guntrip and his 18-year-old girlfriend set out from Newtown en route to Shrewsbury cinema last week but their journey took a seemingly paranormal turn near the village of Belan.

Carl, 21, described the chilling moment which occurred on Saturday, January 24, between 8.15pm and 8.30pm.

"Something just did not seem right," said Carl. "We had just past the Horseshoes pub and were approaching Belan when we saw something on the side of the road.

"There was a woman standing there looking back at us with grey hair.
"She looked to be in her late 60s but her clothes did not look like anything I have ever seen before.

"If anything the clothes appeared to be from around the 1900s."

Carl's passenger confirmed she had shared the same vision, but wisely decided not to linger.

"We were both really frightened but we had been looking forward to this film for a while and were already running late so we decided to continue for Shrewsbury."

The pair made the return journey with trepidation but despite passing the site of their earlier fright the mysterious 'woman' failed to make her presence felt.

"We had a good look around on the way back but whatever it was obviously decided against a second appearance.

"I had never seen a ghost before and neither had my girlfriend but we definitely saw something that night."
