Spirit Orbs are generally thought of as another type of ghostly presence. Spirit Orbs are basically energy signatures of spirits and since spirits themselves are energy, the presence of an Orb is thought to be a positive sign of a spirit being present. There have been many instances of successfully photographing Orbs but you do have to take precautions to make sure the Orbs you see in a photograph are truly of a paranormal nature.

My team recently conducted an investigation of an old house in an Atlanta suburb. The homeowners showed us photo after photo of family members photographed throughout the house surrounded by what they called Orbs. During the investigation, we captured a number of Orbs and the precautions we took before and during the investigation assured us that what we captured were truly Spirit Orbs.

Many things in the natural world can show up on a photograph as something resembling an Orb, but of course it's not.

Whenever I prepare to photograph a room, I make sure there's little or no dust in the room air. Large dust particles can show up as bright white spheres appearing to look like an Orb. The closer the dust is to the camera, the larger it looks in relationship to the background. It's always best to photograph a room that hasn't been walked in recently since walking through a room can stir up floor dust. One technique I use to control this potential problem is to photograph the room from an adjacent room or hallway, only sticking my arm with the camera through the doorway.

Insects such as moths and flies can also be a problem while trying to capture Orbs. A flying insect buzzing by at just the wrong time can show up as a streak or spot, which, although may look impressive, it's still just an insect. Care should be taken to make sure the environment being photographed is free of any flying insects.

Another problem is moisture. Any time you take a photograph when there is moisture in the air, the water vapor reflects the camera's flash which often creates quite an impressive looking Orb. I always make sure that all outside windows are closed at least a couple of hours prior to photographing to ensure there's no moisture in the room air.

Spirits manifest themselves in quite a number of ways and Orbs are certainly a common form. If every investigator takes these steps to ensure the environment they are photographing is controlled, then they can be more convinced the Orbs they capture are real.
