f you are just getting started out in the paranormal field or like me a veteran of many investigations then you may know how hard it is to find a public location to investigate at an affordable rate. In a field that has recently been exposed more than ever by television it was only a matter of time before these locations featured on these shows surged in popularity and prices. In this series known as “Best Boo for Your Buck” I will be examining some places that I have had the chance to investigate that is both affordable and won’t disappoint. Please note that some of this information is purely the opinion of the author of this article.

Now, before we begin I rate locations based on a 5/5 scale. I will take into account several factors including location popularity, quality of evidence captured, level of paranormal activity, the service, and lodging as well as initial cost. The ratings will be noted as 1/5=poor 2/5=mediocre, 3/5=good, 4/5= Recommended, and finally 5/5=Highly Recommended

Location: South Pittsburg, TN

Type of Location: Former Hospital

Media Spots: Ghost Lab, My Ghost Story, MTV’s True Life, and soon to be featured on Paranormal Challenge.

Level of Activity: This location is very active and the spirits are more than willing to communicate. There are a variety of spirits here from children to elderly spirits but there are no bad spirits here so don’t be afraid to communicate!

Evidence Captured: Some of the most amazing evidence in the field has been captured at this location including but not limited Class A EVP, Spirit Photos, and a whole lot more.

Paranormal Amplifiers: As you may know some things such as lime stone, Water, Thunderstorms..etc have been said to amplify paranormal activity. This location has a high concentration of limestone and water underneath the hospital.

Lodging & Initial Investigation Cost: This location offers two types of investigations which include an 8 hour overnight for $35 per person (minimum required) and a full 22 hour investigative lockdown for $55 per person with a 5 person minimum.

8-Hour Investigations: These are Guided Investigations that you get to actually investigate with a guide to see what you might experience or capture on film or audio. They also offer unguided Investigations too. Unless your local you may want to find a hotel



22-Hour Investigations: The best option of the two is the overnight 22-hour investigation which begins at 1:00 pm and lasts until 11:00 am the next morning so not hotel is required. This option costs $55 per person with a 5 person minimum. Think of the savings! I highly recommend this option for two reasons. First, you get to spend the night and save on hotel fees. Finally, you get 22 hours to get evidence!.

Service: This location offers several services such as 8-channel DV-R recordings including audio. There are a lot of recreation opportunities such as sound experiments via the PA system on all 3 floors and other trigger rooms can be used. You will have access to the entire hospital with the exception of a few locations for obvious reasons

One thing that most people want to know is about the air conditioning and heating system. First, there is sleeping quarters for the investigators with limited amounts of bedding but there is bedding however sheets and pillows are not provided. Also, in these sleeping areas and the room for the command center there is heating and air conditioning however other parts of the hospital are not headed or have a/c. There is a minifridge and coffee maker in the command center. If you plan on having big groups please be sure to bring extra bedding, space heaters and fans if needed. There is also wireless internet available free to do broadcasts and there also is a large meeting room w/ PowerPoint capabilities for lectures and other events.

I must mention that I have been to places were some of the owners only cared about the money and could care less if you got evidence or anything. The Old South Pittsburg hospital is operated by a family who lives within the building. These are the nicest folks I have ever met and they want you to have fun and get your money’s worth. They are not interested in only the money but contributing to the paranormal field by offering a research center for both the beginning and seasoned researchers.

FINAL COMMENTS: This by far is the BEST place I have ever investigated and our group got some amazing evidence. From the very first time we walked into these dark halls back in Feb. of this year and most recently on July 10th this place will NOT disappoint you at all.
