Frequently asked questions:
______________________

Does this tour go Underground? No, this is an above ground tour through the Pike Place Market. The Underground Tour goes Underground. This tour, however, perfectly compliments what you will learn on the Underground tour. There are portions of Underground in the Market, however they are in use today. We, as guides are fascinated with how the earth was moved in Seattle and we will point out to you what areas of the Market have been lifted.

Can you guarantee that I will see a ghost? This question is hard to answer, but No. We will however tell you about seeing ghosts and what some of the current theories are if you ask.

Can I take pictures on the tour? Yes, and occasionally people do get orbs or other strange images on the tour. If you are specifically interested in ghost hunting, one of our guides knows alot about this subject - I can make sure you get on her tour if you request this.

I don’t believe in ghosts, is this tour appropriate for me? Of course, this is a historical tour and a ghost tour. You will be entertained even if you are not a “believer”.

Why don’t you do a tour much later in the evening? We do offer an 8pm tour but the Market at night is not always easy to access and we do not have the ability to go to all the places we use on the tour when the buildings are closed for the night. One of the best parts of taking this tour is meeting when things are starting to close down and finishing the tour when the Market is closed. You can request a PRIVATE tour at any time, and we do Pub Crawls twice a year through the Market late into the night.

Is this tour appropriate for children? Children love the tour, however, the subject matters can be a little confusing. So please note in advance that some of the humor is adult in nature and that they may have questions about ghosts and death, etc... after the tour. Come to a 6pm tour and avoid the later tours when offered so that those can be more adult in nature.

Are there bathrooms? There are bathrooms in the theater where we start the tour.

Is the tour wheelchair accessible? The night tour is not wheelchair accessible, but with advanced notice we can create a private tour for anyone in a wheelchair or using a scooter.

Do the tour guides take tips? Yes, of course.

Do I have to buy a ticket in advance? No, just show up 10 minutes before the tour at the Gum Wall.

Mission: To preserve the oral tradition and people's history of the Pike Place Market and, in doing so connect visitors to the individuals that have impacted the Market's growth. To support the economic and social fabric of the Pike Place Market and educate and entertain it's customers. To instill in each visitor a unique relationship to the land and development of the Market so that each person who hears the ghost stories is compelled to be an integral part in the future of the Pike Place Market.

The Market Ghost Tours continue a tradition started over 20 years ago by my father, Michael Yaeger (Mayor of Pike Place) and Shelia Lyon, of the Market Magic Shop. Through my work as a researcher, I have studied each story to find that all except one may link to an event in Seattle's history. That history is fascinating and frightening at times. I have worked with mediums, psychics, ghost hunters, and historians to create the tour. We take an approach that explores the land the Market is on, the Native American history in Seattle, and incorporate an exploration of the many industrys in the Market district from the 1850's until now. Learn how money was offered for cadavers in the early 1900's and what earned 1st Avenue the nickname "Flesh Avenue" - Mercedes Yaeger, owner and guide
