As readers already know, I'm an Empath. What you may not know is I'm also a member of Paranormal Investigations of North Texas based out of Denton. Recently, the organization's founder, Kendall Rubio, agreed to discuss her views on the use of those with psychic abilities during a paranormal investigation.

Jen: How long have you been investigating the paranormal?

Kendall: I have been investigating on and off on my own since 2004, but really started to investigate full time, and with my team, at the beginning of this year.

J: How did you get involved in paranormal investigations?

K: I got involved with the paranormal through having my own personal experience with it. These experiences spanned over 2 years at my private residence in Kansas City. I really had no one to turn to at that time, because of conflicts with regards to experiences versus faith versus religion. I knew at that point that I would, in one way or another, be brought into this field, and I am pleased to have been able to start my own organization to assist people that go through experiences with things that they don’t understand.

J: Alright, let's get to the good stuff. Are you aware of any psychic abilities you may possess?

K: I don’t think I have any psychic abilities, personally. I do, however believe that most people are capable of developing what I would consider an intrinsic gift that would utilize the large percentage of the brain that people to not exercise.

J: Do you (or have you ever) work with individuals with psychic abilities during an investigation?

K: Yes, we have a medium on our team, whom I have the utmost respect for. I encourage those that are familiar with their gifts and have experience using them to bring those skills to our investigations, provided that it does not offend the client (located in the Bible belt, we have to respect all beliefs). We have also have an empath on our team, which I hope to work more with in the future.

J: Do you feel those with psychic abilities can be beneficial during an investigation? Why or why not?

K: I do feel that their abilities can be very beneficial during our investigations. They can help guide our team during the investigation, as far as what areas to set up our equipment, what tone to take during EVP sessions, and they help as far as what type of paranormal activity is occurring. Even though we do not use parapsychology or science alone to determine the outcome of the case, both play a role in the case conclusion.

J: As an observer of the paranormal in general, do you have any thoughts/opinions about psychic abilities?

K: With regards to psychic abilities in paranormal, I think they are important to the field. They offer another side to investigating, a more open-minded approach to helping a client. One important side to psychic abilities being used by paranormal research groups is that we need to be careful who we use due to their abilities. Some people with these gifts are not fully versed, comfortable, or knowledgeable about their skills and can misinterpret what they might be sensing at a location. This lack of understanding can cause great harm to the client’s emotional well being, and stress levels. I absolutely, however, encourage the use of parapsychology within paranormal research.

J: How can people learn more about your organization and what you do?

K: Our group has several ways for people to find out about who we are, and what we do. First and foremost, our official website is the best source of information on our group, team members, investigations, and upcoming events. We are also launching our EVP Lounge BlogRadio Talk Show. The EVP Lounge will be featuring a wide variety of topics having to do with the paranormal. We will have featured guests, call in opportunities for listeners and fascinating topics of discussion and debate. We also have a MySpace page and can be found on Twitter.
