Research and Investigation of the Paranormal (R.I.P.) recently completed an investigation of the Byrd Theatre in Richmond, VA, and this location lived up to its reputation of being both beautiful AND haunted.
The 1,300 seat Byrd Theatre was built in the “French Empire†architectural style in 1928 and has survived largely unaltered in appearance or function, operating almost continuously as a movie theatre down through the years. The Byrd dates from the time when movie theatres resembled opulent European Opera Houses, complete with paintings, marble walls, and gold leaf decoration. The centerpiece of the theatre is an 18 foot, two and a half ton Czechoslovakian crystal chandelier suspended over the auditorium that contains over 5,000 crystals illuminated by 500 red, blue, green and amber lights. Today, the Byrd Theatre is both a State and National Historic Landmark.
Walking into the lobby of the Byrd Theatre is almost like traveling backwards in time to a more elegant era when an evening at the cinema was viewed as a special occasion and men and women routinely dressed to the nines for their night out. In fact, the spirit of the former general manager communicated to one of the mediums during the Spirit Circle that he did not approve of the informal attire of the R.I.P. team.
Interaction with a child spirit
In the allegedly haunted ladies restroom on the first floor, R.I.P. investigators experienced KII spikes in response to questions. The spirit of a little girl apparently moved a toy several times when requested to do so. Another investigator had his wrist grabbed and shaken by a hostile adult entity. All this and more took place during an extended 30 minute session. R.I.P. Psychic Medium Bob Hickman exclaimed “That was the most amazing paranormal experience I’ve ever had!â€
Additional encounters throughout the theatre
Investigators encountered activity in the balcony and near the stage itself. They experienced cold spots, hot spots, EMF spikes, and another incident of being touched. Evidence review to date has revealed six Class A EVPs and one EASP (Electronic Anomalous Sound Phenomena).
