Philadelphia Ghost Hunters Alliance

Philadelphia Ghost Hunters Alliance

Throughout our lives we have had many experiences that could not be explained as natural phenomena. My name is Lewis Gerew. My wife, Sharon, and I are very fortunate to have had ghostly phenomena happen in our presence since childhood. Such events, high in number, eventually sparked our interests in the paranormal.

It was in 1996 that we finally bought our first computer. In a short matter of time, we decided to surf the web to see what information we could find on ghosts and hauntings. Amazingly, there were actually websites with photographs, claiming that there were ghosts in them. We saw everything from orbs of light and vortices to ectoplasms and apparitions. Well, even with first hand ghostly experiences and our belief in their existence, we just could not accept the images we were seeing on the web. Yes, we were very much skeptical.

As ghost hunting websites added more photos to their pages, the more we thought we could attribute their "ghost" photos to natural mishaps. We even went as far as writing E-mail to them to express our opinion. We stood firm in our belief in ghosts, but simply could not accept that ghosts were actually what was in the photographs. In our opinion, we were seeing water spots, camera straps and cigarette smoke.

As time passed and our skepticism was getting the best of us, we decided to join a ghost hunting organization in Philadelphia. Our logical thinking was to prove that ghost photos were fakes and misinterpretations of naturally occurring mistakes. Unbeknownst to us, there were no ghost hunting groups in Philadelphia or surrounding areas, thus the birth of the Philadelphia Ghost Hunters Alliance in 1997. Our belief in ghosts allowed us to investigate with an open mind. Our unbelief in ghost photos set us out on a mission that has entirely changed our lives................and perspectives!

Now, the PGHA has made it commonplace to incorporate open mindedness with skepticism. Our skepticism has led us to great heights in ghost photography. Going way beyond the necessary measures to prevent false images, we continue to capture anomalies on film. What makes this more strange is that most anomalous images are captured in known haunted locations. Coincidence? We think not. First hand experience has made believers out of us! Truthfully, the only way to find out for yourself is to become a ghost hunter.................we did!
